Guinness International Champions Cup 2014

Manchester United Vs Real Madrid at Ann Arbor, Michigan

Where were you this weekend?

Thanks to Guinness US, I had the chance to fly to Detroit, Michigan this weekend to hang out with the their team, see the players from Manchester United and Real Madrid train before their game and then experience the most watched soccer match in the United States, setting a record with an announced crowd of 109,318 in the Guinness International Champions Cup on Saturday.

This record toppled the number set by the 1984 Olympics final, when 101,799 saw France face Brazil at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

While hanging out on the field you heard the fans roaring behind me when the most well-recognized players came close to them. The stars playing on Saturday were Gareth Bale, David De Gea, Wayne Rooney, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and Cristiano Ronaldo. The rumor was that Ronaldo wasn’t going to play on Saturday and was initially ruled out with a leg injury but it seems like he asked to play against his old club Manchester United because he played for the last 16 minutes, making his first appearance since starring for Portugal in the World Cup. However, he didn’t have any significant contribution, thus Real Madrid losing to Manchester United, 3-1.

The game, however didn’t disappoint. The highlight of the game, besides watching the stars mentioned above I would say was when Hernandez closed the scoring with a powerful header in the 80th minute, sealing Manchester United’s path to the International Champions Cup final.

Manchester United plays against Liverpool Football Club on Monday at Sun Life in Miami. Watch the two most successful English clubs go head to head in the Guinness International Champions Cup final.
