On Wednesday, April 11th Whisky Live hit New York City, filling the lovely Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers on the Hudson. Pinstripe Magazine was there tasting the rarest, finest and most expensive whiskeys from all over the world (Whiskey – American & Irish spelling / Whisky – British and Canadian spelling). There were a few beers, vodkas and other spirits there but whisky was the only reason we were there. With all the distillery managers, masters blenders, ambassadors and other industry pros, it was definitely the right opportunity for us to become a whisky connoisseur. However, after the first two hours I think everything that was learned that night was forgotten. What I do remember was tasting some great Canadian whisky, clear whisky not aged, learning how whisky is made from grain, which is what distinguishes it from other distilled beverages like brandy that is made from grapes and how all bourbon is whisky but not all whisky is bourbon. All bourbon is made in the USA. Now, for the rest of the lesson you are going to have to attend the next Whisky event to learn more.
