The EPI considers many factors such as air pollution and clean water and then puts them together to come up with a number to the grade of the state they are in. 50 percent of the refers to overall health while the other half involves how strong and preserved their ecosystem is.
Some of the countries may rank high because of the plethora of forests that they have because forests act as natural air filters. It is no surprise that many countries that you can find on the list are large and uninhabited areas that are covered with forests.
Iceland
Iceland has truly great air quality. Just around 2007, the government forbid smoking in places like bars or restaurants. But, people don’t just walk and smoke, and that is why they have less polluted air and a cleaner country.
Iceland doesn’t have many forests, so it can be graded in the forest category. Only 2 percent of Iceland has forests because Vikings decided to cut down all the trees after they arrived. Because it lacks in flora, it severely affected its ranking.
Their biodiversity and habitat score is only 66.04, which means getting the 129th place on the list. But in other categories, it ranks 3rd in Health Impacts, takes the 4th place in Air Quality, and 3rd in the climate category. In general, Iceland has an EPI result of 90.51.
Tasmania
Australia is the country that has the cleanest air. Tasmania is also registered as the country with the world’s purest air. Scientists register only a couple of hundred particles per cubic centimeter of air. That is a thousand times less than any other major cities. There is no surprise that the best way to experience the world’s most beautiful landfalls is by being outdoors. More than half of Tasmania is either a national park, reserve, or world heritage-protected wilderness.

Brunei is based on the island of Borneo and it’s sealed off by Malaysia and the South China Sea. It is known for its gorgeous beaches and lushes rainforests, because of what the majority is protected within reserves. In the capital, you can find an extravagant mosque that has many golden domes.
The country has a population of almost half a million and is one of the most industrialized countries in Asia. But still, despite its rapid industrialization, it is still managing to keep its clean air standards.
This country offers a great number of lushes jungles and breathtaking beaches, exciting markets, and some of the most amazing Islamic architecture there is, it will impress any visitor.
Malta
Malta is based in the central Mediterranean. It has become popular because of its historic sites related to a succession of rulers including the Romans, French and British. It has many fortresses and underground complex of halls and burial chambers from 4000 B.C.
Malta the smallest yet most populated country in the world, it has an estimated population of somewhere around 450,000. It is one of the most popular European vacation spots, because of its amazing beaches.
Their government has been environmentally census, and that is why Malta has become included in the top 10 cleanest countries list. Even though it’s not super clean and, all of the locations in the country are beautiful and of course have good air quality.
Malta places 11th in Air Quality, a proud 1st place in Water and Sanitation and 29th in Climate and Energy. That makes Malta get an EPI score of 88.48.
This World can be a genuinely amazing place if we have pure air to breathe and the clean water to drink. One of the worst enemies of the 21st century is the rising of pollution levels.
