Torpedoes Away! URWERKS UR-110 TTH and UR-110 ST
UR-110 TTH and UR-110 ST varient on the UR-110 luxury timepiece collection, URWERK Baumgartner & Frei Geneva releases the UR-100 TTH and UR-110ST luxury timepieces. The level of craftsmanship in engineering, precision and materials are unmistakable when you see the 2011 Grand Prix de Geneve winner for Best Watch Design timepieces. The Three-Dimensional horological architecture of the UR-110TTH and UR-110ST will mesmerize you with its beauty and mechanical harmony.
Three hour satellites are aligned on the right side of the watch along an arc displaying the time from 0-60 minutes downward. Planetary gearing keeps the “torpedoes” or arrows alternate to display the time in a unique way. The control board located on the dial side of these luxury timepieces display service intervals as well as day/night indicator, dual turbine automatic self-winding system is securely enclosed by the titanium back.
The UR-110TTH boasts an unbreakable Tantalum hull and tantalum crafted bezel. Coming in at a thickness of 4.10mm, the armoured bezel with military styling overtones, is nearly double from the counterpart UR-110 models at 2.40mm. A new panoramic sapphire crystal accompanies the UR-110TTH.
“Tantalum is a rare metal of which the name comes from Tantalus, a Greek mythological figure synonymous with temptation,” explains URWERK co-founder and chief watchmaker Felix Baumgartner. “We therefore naturally succumbed to its charms! Its colour is such that we decided to use it in its natural state while satin-finishing and sand-blasting helped to enhance the natural beauty of this intriguing material.”
The UR-110 ST features an aesthetically beautiful AlTiN bezel. The UR-110 ST is designed to be pleasing to the tactile senses as much as it is designed as a work of art. Martin Frei, URWERK co-founder and artist-designer speaks;
“A watch worn on a daily basis should be a source of pleasure – the primal pleasure of possession, naturally, but also the pleasure of the experience of it on the wrist,” he says. “There is a quote I like from French poet and diplomat Paul Claudel: ‘Sculpture is the need to touch.’ I very much hope the UR-110 ST creates this need.”
If you happan to have an extra $80,000 to spare on this work of art, you can get yourself a titanium or anthracite version the UR-110. The UR-110 TTH and UR-110 ST will come in the 6-figure varieties, so bring your wallets!
