Spanish Flier

Spanish Flier

A fighter jet and an F1 car are the masters of their particular trade, yet nobody thought to combine the two. But now Spanish designer Josep Rubau has sought inspiration from the skies and the race track to produce the ultimate supercar – the AD Tramontana R Edition.

Rubau sought an alternative to the generic supercars out there right now and his plane/F1/mechanized Godzilla baddy insect certainly doesn’t follow the flock.

But don’t be fooled by the outlandish looks, underneath the skin is a masterpiece of engineering that starts with a full carbon-fibre chassis, two inline seats that distribute weight far better and a 5.5-litre, twin-turbo 720bhp engine. That means this car will get to 60mph in 3.6s and will keep going to 200mph.

It’s exclusive, too. Just 12 of these spectacular creations will leave the factory in Girona, Northern Spain, each year, so it doesn’t matter that it’s not to everyone’s tastes. And even if you do like it, there’s the small matter of the €385,000 asking price, which is approximate $484,000 before you start hitting the optional extras list that includes a diamond encrusted interior. Seriously. See more pictures and video on the next page. By Nick Hall
