Schlage Camelot Touchscreen Deadbolt and Nexia Home Intelligence
In order to properly rule your kingdom, you must first secure your castle appropriately. The Schlage Camelot Touchscreen Deadbolt with Alarm BE469NXVCAM, paired with the lower handleset in the Satin Nickel finish is a beautiful accent to your entry way into your home. The Built-in Alarm technology, Nexia Home Intelligence and keyless entry give you the convenience and security you will love.
Touchscreen Keyless Entry and Alarm
The most notable feature is the keyless entry option that is super convenient and will hold up to 30 different user codes so you can set individual entry codes for say your maid, or your baby sitter. The built-in alarm system also gives you three levels of alerts, one for activity which utilizes the built-in motion sensor, a tamper and a forced entry alert sets off the alarm. The motorized deadbolt delivers smooth action and requires 3 AA batteries to function. I absolutely love the touchscreen keypad entry, it functions very well and allows you to lighten your keyring which is always a bonus not to mention you’ll never accidentally get locked out of your home. There is of course a keyhole for traditional operation as well.
Deadbolt Installation
The system was extremely easy to install and lined up well with a previous standard deadbolt installation and lower handleset. An additional hole was needed to secure the bottom bolt of the lower handleset due to the size difference, but other than that very little trimming if any was needed. Helpful videos are also readily available on Schlage’s website to assist you should you require it. There is no wiring needed, it’s a bolt on, plug and play system. I found the installation instructions are easy to follow and took probably less than 30 min to install if that. Just remember to purchase the correct lower handleset, there is one for a left-hand (ACC LH) turning and a right turning handle (ACC RH). A little wood putty, a fresh coat of paint with the roller and we’re all set.
Security and Construction
The deadbolt is constructed of the highest level of durability and security ANSI Grade 1 (Highest residential security rating) at the points of entry. A fingerprint and smudge proof matte finish keypad illuminates in a cool blue for night time entries. Schlage provides a reinforcement plate for the receiving door jam side to strengthen the deadbolt. My only complaint is that the deadbolt action using the knob on the inside is slightly loose. Almost feels as if it were abused it might break down and require a repair.
Nexia Home Intelligence
Nexia has teamed up with Schlage to bring you some integrated functionality for your home. Nexia Home Intelligence allows you to do things like; grant entry from anywhere in the world, schedule specific time frames for certain codes, control lighting in your home and even receive text messages or email alerts when specific assigned codes are utilized so you can keep tabs on who’s coming in when your not there.
Set up a Schlage with Nexia Home Intelligence Home Indoor Camera and monitor your home and record, store or view video of your home from your smartphone or pc. Additional appliance plugs and window, motion, door sensors, thermostats and more are available and all require a monthly subscription to operate. That said you can control virtually anything in your home remotely via the Z-wave compatible products from Schlage with Nexia Home Intelligence.
For those of you unfamiliar, Z-Wave is a home automation wireless protocol that works with RF radio equipped devices for your home, office or even in light commercial applications.
Nexia Installation
While the Deadbolt and lower handle set was a cinch, the Bridge (which is the brain/wireless router/hardware security dongle) setup was a little troublesome and we had to setup a temporary dmz on the firewall to communicate properly with the Nexia server for authentication and Bridge enrollment. Something helpful would be to provide the user with ip addresses and port numbers for the service ahead of time. For the non-tech savvy individual, it may save you some aggravation to seek the assistance from the Nexia Support dept.
Registering a device to your online Nexia account, what Nexia calls Enrollment, requires a bit of a ritual and some patience to register each device but once you’ve done it, you can forget it for the most part. For each device, beginning with the Bridge module will need to be Enrolled to your Nexia online account by entering the MAC address online and then connecting it to your router. Each add-on device requires you to pair the devices
Once you complete the physical, enrollment and subscription process, you are then presented with a UI to administer or monitor your account/your home or office from. Nexia also offers an iOS based or Android App for your smartphone, tablet or other mobile device so you can literally control as much of your home you choose to integrate, from anywhere in the world.
