I don’t believe I ever shopped at the Rugby store for myself. However I have visited the store in Union Square and a few times bought stuff for inspiration when I was designing menswear. Today I just read from four-pins.com that WWD’s David Lipkey reported via Twitter that all 14 retail stores and e-commerce will be shuttered by next year. This news has since seemingly been confirmed via Rugby’s own Twitter as well. I suppose there is really no need for the store when GANT RUGGER already exists and other all-American retail clothing stores like Abercrombie and Fitch and American Eagle already sell similar clothing for the mass market. Well, at least Ralph Lauren still has the POLO, Ralph Lauren and RRL stores to keep him living comfortably.
