PM’s Top Ten Cars at the NY International Auto Show 2012
After visiting the NY International Auto Show, along with some lengthy guy debates about cars, our staff has selected Pinstripe Magazine’s Top Ten Cars at the NY International Auto Show for 2012. It was difficult to choose but we have come up with the 10 we felt were the best of the best. Whether you are a guy who likes the imports or domestic cars, race cars, SUVs, commuter cars you’ll get it and everything in between or maybe you are just a little more “Green” then the average car buff, the NY Auto Show is the place to be. The NY International Auto Show runs until this Sunday April 15th, 2012 so you can still get out there and spend a fun day checking out some of the coolest, newest and most innovative automobiles to come to NYC yet!
Before you go complaining, we left out the Dodge Viper SRT10, since it is probably on every guys’ radar. We hope you enjoy our top 10 picks for 2012!
In no particular order, PM’s Top Ten Cars at the 2012 NY International Auto Show:
-Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Blanc Noir
This limited edition luxury toy for the elite, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Blanc Noir is just about the epitome and every guy’s fantasy car for both luxury and sport. A super car of the Volkswagen AG company, the Veyron Grand Sport Blanc Noir comes equipped with a 16-cylinder engine, with a maximum output of 1,000 hp. A little shorter and stout compared to the Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, the Veyron Grand Sport Blanc Noir is also a bit more organic in its aesthetics and will be limited to a production of only 150 automobiles. Coming in at a cool $1.9 million or or 1.45 million Euros. This should be no surprise as Bugatti’s are known for three things, Style, Performance
and Price.
-McLaren MP4-12C
She is powered by a twin-turbocharged, 3.8-liter bespoke V8 with 592 hp at 7000 rpm and 443 ft. lbs of torque at 3000 rpm and the max boost is 17.4 psi. The MP4-12C can achieve a 0-60 just 3.0 seconds flat with a quarter mile run in 10.4 seconds. She comes in with a curb weight of 3200 lbs. and a top speed of 205 mph. The mid-engine beauty is a rear-drive inter-cooled DOHC coupe, 32-valve v8 with port fuel injection and aluminum block and heads. The intake manifold and cam shaft covers are constructed of composite plastic to save on weight.

-Audi R8 GT Spyder Convertible
This German engineered driving high-performance machine comes equipped with a 560hp 5.2 liter V10 aluminum alloy, mid-mounted longitudinal, continuous intake and exhaust camshaft adjustment, DOHC chain driven, Audi FSI direct injection engine that can achieve a 0-60 mph in 3.8 sec, with a top speed of 198 mph at 560hp at 8000 rpm with 398 lb. ft at 6500 rpm.

-Fisker Karma
You may not have heard of Fisker before but you should if you are looking for luxury, style, performance and speed in a hybrid luxury sports car. The Fisker Karma is a 400 hp luxury sedan that can achieve 0-60 in 6.1 seconds utilizing Fisker’s “EVer” or Electric Vehicle Extended Range powertrain technology. The Fisker Karma hybrid car can run up to 51.6 miles all electric or a total range of up to 300 miles with the gas engine component. Charge sustaining sport mode will give you about 26 mpg, but what was very interesting about this car was the roof. The entire surface of the roof is a solar panel!
-Dodge Challenger SRT8
This classic Chrysler has been re-invented, but this year comes back in the form of the Challenger SRT8 392 HEMI and has held true to the classic muscle car style that made it famous. The classic bodied Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 HEMI can achieve a 0-60 mph in approximately 4 seconds, with a quarter mile run in 12 seconds and 0-100 in 15 seconds. Top speed for the Challenger SRT8 is 182mph. The Challenger SRT8 comes equipped with a 392-cubic inch 470 horsepower 6.4L HEMI V8. Even comes with your very own built-in G-Force indicator for when you plant yourself to the seat!
-Aston Martin DBS convertible coupe
Aston Martin has produced some of the finest performance cars in the world, known as the DB line of cars. The name of Aston Martin carries with it an err of sophistication, it’s even been featured in 5 James Bond movies. Aston Martin carries on their tradition of sophistication and speed with the 2012 Aston Martin DBS. The DBS is equipped with a 6-liter v12 engine, a de-tuned version of the Aston Martin DBR9 and DBRS9 race cars. The DBS delivers 510 hp at 6500 rpm and body constructed of lightweight bonded aluminum.
-Lexus LFA
Lexus isn’t just about luxury anymore, the Lexus LFA is their flagship performance vehicle for 2012 comes with racing paddle shifters, this is not your average Toyota. The rear-wheel drive import super car carries with it a 4.8 liter V10 with 553 hp at 354 lb. ft, achieving a top speed of 202 mph and is mated to a unique six-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox or ASG. The ASG is located in the transaxle giving a 48:52 front to rear weight distribution for optimal handling and performance.
-BMW M6
The M-Series BMW automobiles are high-performance machines tuned for the track and comfortable enough for the road. BMW takes track and race technology and integrates them into their M-Line of performance cars. BMW is back with the M-line after 2 years to bring your the new BMW M6 Coupe. This 2+2 M-Powered BMW comes in both a hard-top and convertible and is powered by a 560 hp M TwinPower Turbo V8 mated to a 7-speed M-Double Clutch Transmission or M-DCT with the M-Differential optimally transferring power between the two rear wheels.
-Lotus Evora S
The Lotus Evora S is powered by an ALL alloy, 3.5 litre DOHC V6 VVTi, 24-valve with Harrop HTV 1320 Supercharger, a mid-mounted, transverse, rear wheel drive-train with Lotus Electronic Throttle Control System. Bi-Xenon headlamps allow you maximum vision as you drive with choice of either a 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic with IPS, Intelligent Precision Shift transmission. The Lotus Evora S comes in with 345 hp at 7000 rpm with 295 lb. ft at 4500 rpm which gives you a 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 178mph or 286kph and comes in slightly heavier at approx 3170 lbs or 1437 kgs.

-Ford Shelby Mustang GT1000 2013
The all American classic car the Mustang is arguably one of the most recognizable and representative cars of the muscle era. If you owned a Ford Mustang and were into muscle cars, chances are you have heard of Carroll Shelby. Mr. Shelby was responsible for creating the Mustang Shelby Cobra and is one of the most well known names for taking your stock Mustang and bringing it over the top with aftermarket performance parts and tuning and the pinnacle of the Mustang GT muscle car. The Shelby Mustang GT 1000 will be offered in both a street version rated at 950hp and the S/C or “off-road” track version will pump out 1,100 hp! The street version will start at $150,000 while the track version will be approx $200,000 loaded.
