Outerwear Gift Guide

What can you get a man that has everything this holiday season? Well, there are numerous things but one item that you can never go wrong with during the holidays is a man’s coat. After all it is winter, and if the guy in your life is not so stylish we can bet you that his outerwear hasn’t been updated in a few years. So, here is a list of coats every man should have in their closets because certain outerwear should be worn for different occasions.

1. The first piece of outerwear Pinstripe Magazine recommends is the infamous Trench Coat, which has been very popular these years. Every man should have one. We suggest picking up a Burberry Trench Coat. Even though any Burberry Trench Coat will do the STRUCTURED COTTON TRENCH COAT is our favorite and the right choice for a man to wear when going to work, dressing up in slacks and wearing over a casual suit. This soft cotton twill trench coat with military inspired details has luggage stitching accentuating the structured cut of the trench coat. It also has heritage epaulettes, gun flap, back rain shield, central back vent, belted waist and cuffs with vintage metallic eyelets and D-rings. The Structured Cotton Trench Coat will cost you $995 and you can pick it up online at www.burberry.com.

2. New Years is right around the corner and most likely you will be wearing a black suit, a tuxedo or something formal. Now, we know you hate dressing up or you probably don’t know what to wear over your tux. This year rough it up a bit and make sure either of the following coats are in your closet. Any of these militant inspired pea coats will do the trick. Yes all of them would look great over black slacks and even jeans but this year make a manly statement and own an AllSaints Prior Coat, Mast Pea Coat or Torrent Coat. The Prior Coat is mid length double breasted with a funnel collar. It is fully lined using tri-colored contrasting wool flannels, which have been exclusively designed for AllSaints. The Mast Pea Coat is fully lined, double breasted with working cuffs and AllSaints branded real horn buttons. The Mast Pea Coat is made from quality woven British Cloth. The Torrent Coat is also fully lined, double breasted with seam detail at the shoulders, working cuffs and AllSaints branded real horn buttons. This style is made using compact Italian wool Melton. All three can be found at allsaints.com and purchased each for $365.

3. We never know when snow will hit us or when we will go skiing, therefore a ski winter jacket should definitely be one of your winter essentials. What do you wear when you are outside playing in then snow with the kids or friends or when you are digging out your car from the awful snow storm? You definitely don’t want to wear your nice coats mentioned above or any other casual jacket you have, which will get wet and ruined. This is why Pinstripe Magazine says to get a ski jacket. One of our favorite overseas brands known for outerwear is Napapijri. They have a store in soho, NY and are available online at napapijri.com. Their coats are good for keeping the cold and snow out and three Napapijri coats we suggest this holiday are the following: Atyra, Boden 11 and Skidoo 10. Both the Atyra ($594) and the Boden 11 ($464) have feather down lining. The Skidoo 10 ($464) speaks for itself.

4. For those casual days when stepping out of the house to run errands or hitting an early dinner we suggest coats that are shorter, fitted, stylish and very comfortable to wear. These two jackets above look great over jeans, slacks and a button down collar shirt. You are keeping it casual but letting the world know that you mean business. The outerwear piece to the left is a JensenMartin Como Tailored Single Breasted Jacket ($450). This tailored, five-button style easily stands alone as the perfect suit jacket replacement. Remove the detachable chest lining for a sleeker, more polished look. This jacket stylishly skims the body, yet offers enough room for a sweater. The high performance suit jacket keeps you in your comfort zone during any activity. The jacket to the right is a Vivienne Westwood MAN Knitwear cardigan. Even though this is a knitted sweater it also acts as a jacket because of how heavy and warm it is. The neutral colors make it wearable with just about anything. Plus it feels so comfortable. You can add this Vivienne cardigan to your wish list and see if anyone loves you enough and gets it for you. For $1,140 the jacket (Stockist: Vivienne Westwood 323 951-0021) can be picked up at www.viviennewestwood.co.uk.

5. Ok, so you are stepping out for the night, heading to a bar with the guys. Pull out those jeans, thermal top and grab a leather jacket from your closet. Don’t have one? Well start making a request to that love one. These leather jackets above are a must have for any man who knows how to put himself together. He knows when to wear a trench coat, a ski or puffy jacket and then owns a leather jacket for those rugged days/nights when he feels like a bad ass. The Andrew Marc Barrel Blaster on the left is worn-in to perfection. It is comfy and casual, yet utterly Andrew Marc. Jacket is available for $695 at www.andrewmarc.com. The middle jacket from Dolce & Gabbana is a red-brown pre-worn leather bomber jacket in a fitted cut. It’s got some fine detailing and the worn-in leather and finish is exceptional. The jacket also features ribbed wool cuffs and hem and is made in Italy with the finest care. For $1278 the Dolce & Gabbana jacket can be purchased at mrporter.com. The last jacket on the right is a finer leather jacket with incredible hardware. Schott NYC teamed up with Restoration Hardware for a limited release of this vintage cafe racer motorcycle jacket. The slim fitting jacket features authentic talon zippers and comes in black and brown. It’s shipped in classic Perfecto cigar box, modeled after the original shipping boxes from the 1930s. Like all other fine Schott product, the jacket is made by hand in the Schott NYC union factory in Elizabeth, NJ. You can get it now for $650 at www.restorationhardware.com.
