Another review that I just couldn’t miss out on was Kanye West’s “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”. It is his fifth studio album and by my standards is probably one of the most defining hip hop albums that has been released in the last couple of years. The album debuted at number 1 in its first week and sold nearly 500,000 copies in the same time span.
It is hard to pry apart the various genres that one can find on the album, but if I had to “box” them systematically, we see a lot of influences from, Opera, break beat, vocal arrangements, orchestral arrangements, etc. For example, the song “All of the lights” employs the use of break beats as well as trumpet arrangements which I think went very well with the video showcasing the strobe lights and what not.
The more personal songs such as “Runaway” and “POWER” again speak about West’s misunderstood public image. In my opinion I personally support Kanye West only because he his eccentricity is what makes him deliver as a true musician. The song “Runaway” starts with a monotone piano that enchants with its use of uni-dimension and then it breaks of into down tempo break beats. “Power”, on the other hand uses vocal arrangements and clapping arrangements to create the background music with a falsified sense of jazz with the trumpets. His album also speaks about the woes of high living. About how one can be numbed by the capacity to get what one always yearns for in terms of material needs.
Well, If you still don’t believe me on this, then hit play on the following videos above to see. I guarantee that you will not be displeased
