Is the Vita going to fail

Oh, Sony – we bet you thought that the Vita was your ticket to printing money. Sadly, there are multiple factors that are seriously holding your latest handheld back, and we thought we’d list them for you and those who are wondering why people just aren’t buzzing about the console.

1) Lack of games.

You would think that, in addition to a good launch selection, the Vita would have had a regular amount of games being released for it. But no – there was a near-drought of Vita titles for months after the initial wave of releases and the console’s debut nearly killed the console dead. Imagine there being no Xbox 360 titles for months after the first batch. Doesn’t happen. Why? Because they’re not stupid companies.

2) Memory.

Proprietary memory cards are Sony’s method of grabbing at your wallet more than they should be allowed to, but this time, they’ve really shot themselves in the collective foot. Overpriced? Too low in storage capacity? These are both issues, and the largest card (32GB) isn’t even on sale in Europe. What this means is less downloads from the Playstation Network Store, and less money for Sony.

3) General mistakes.

Sony seems to assume that hardware is enough and gamers are patient. The outcry, however small, about a lack of releases is enough to warn any common-sense-driven company that they need to do more. No Monster Hunter launch title to suck in the Japanese audience and get them to put down their PSPs. Sony have made mistake after mistake with the Vita, and short of a new version that renders the expensive cards that people have already bought for the first generation of Vitas, there’s little they can do.

Come on, Sony – you’ve got a beast of a console there. Don’t kill it.
