Many of us dream of a life closer to the Rocky Mountains and for some of us, making that dream a reality is our number one priority. If you are set on Colorado, but unsure of what area exactly to live in, you might want to consider Aurora. Let’s take a look at a few things and see how somewhere like that stacks up against other areas within the state in terms of cost and livability.
Cost Of Living
It depends on where you are moving from, but it’s very possible that living in Colorado is going to be more expensive than what you are used to. On average, it’s over 10% more expensive than elsewhere in the United States when looking at comparable accommodations. That’s something to consider, but in no way has to be a deal breaker.
The good news here is that living in Aurora might be a little more in reach than elsewhere in Colorado. On average, it’s only 6% more expensive than elsewhere in the U.S. making more in reach than other places throughout the state where that percentage could skyrocket.
When looking at Aurora apartments compared to other areas in the state, it quickly becomes clear that your dollar is going to go further here than elsewhere in the state.
Getting Around
It’s a decently walkable area but most locals chose to commute by car. Many of those living in Aurora work in Denver, which is around 9 miles away and typically takes around 30 minutes to get to, depending what time of day you are commuting.
If you are more used to the city life in Colorado, you’ll be happy to learn there is public transit set up and bus and train routes are offered locally. The cost for public transit is low and the service is easy to navigate for those learning the system.
If you are considering Aurora and are either from a more rural or urban area, you should have no problem getting comfortable with the many options for transportation available here.
Job Market
A hugely important part of comparing different areas within a state is what you’re going to do for work when you get there. We’ve all fallen in love with seemingly perfect places only to find out our fields have very little work in the place we’ve spent weeks researching.
Thankfully, that shouldn’t be an issue here in Aurora. If you are from, or considering, a more rural part of the state to settle in, keep in mind all there is for professionals here.
Not only does Aurora have seemingly endless employers hiring, ranging from the University of the Colorado Hospital and Children’s Hospital Colorado to Lockheed and Raytheon, there’s all of Denver to go along with it. As mentioned, it’s only around a 9 mile drive to get into the city and as long as you don’t mind the short commute, you are sure to find the perfect job as you get settled in Aurora.
