Epson WorkForce WF-2660 Printer Review. The WF-2660 WorkForce class all in one printer from Epson delivers laser like performance in an affordable ink-jet package. Armed with Epson’s PrecisionCore technology the WF-2660 gives excellent quality dual-sided prints with super sharp text for presentations, reports, photos and more.
Specs and Setup
The WorkForce WF-2660 offers a wide array of functionality without sacrificing quality. It’s all about speed and connectivity; Wireless, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC, USB and direct plug with Ethernet cable. You can print from the cloud or your smartphone/tablet and even scan directly to and from your mobile device. Supports AirPrint, Google Print, Android, Mopria and Epson Connect.
The WF-2660 WorkForce class all-in-one features a fixed top load 30 page ADF or automatic document feeder and a fixed position LCD (unlike the moving LCD panel on the Epson Expression XP-820) as well as a B&W or Color specific start button. The top load ADF does not support duplex. Navigating the WF-2660 is quick and easy with the touch sensitive 2.7 inch color LCD which is touch and swipe sensitive for familiar navigation style.
Measuring 16.7 width x 9.1″ height x 22″ depth and 14.6 lbs, the WF-2660 is relatively compact and it’s easy to use. But it lacks a card reader which is slightly odd for a small office/home unit.
Setup configuration and connection of the unit to your existing WiFi network is straight forward, simply turn it on, use the LCD touch screen to do some basic date, time configuration, pop in the ink and paper, fax line if you use one, then install the drivers and software from the CD and connect to your network via ethernet, wifi or USB. Use the LCD panel by tapping the WiFi symbol, and enter your network information. You can also connect using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) if your router supports that feature.
Installing the software drivers and priming the printers ink heads on initial setup was a bit longer compared to setting up the Expression XP-820, total setup time was approximately 30 min give or take.
Performance
Printing comes in at a respectable 13 ISO ppm in black and 7.3 ISO PPM in color, however the paper tray, is limited to 150 sheets of paper so if you print a lot, you may find yourself reloading the deck quite often, otherwise fine for the occasional spurts of printing.
Color prints are vibrant with adequate color saturation on most paper types with the best results being on premium glossy paper. Epson uses their DURABrite Ultra inks that give you longer lasting prints that resist smudging, fading and water.
The WorkForce WF-2660 is not a photo printer but it is able to more than handle producing excellent quality glossy prints as well as laser sharp black text prints. Photographic prints on premium matte paper were less impressive but personally most family photos are printed on glossy paper in our home.
You can print photos using all the standard sizes but without a dedicated photo tray you are forced to remove the paper from the paper tray and place your photo size paper there.
Scanning
Scanning is a bit on the slow side so if scanning is a focus for you, you may consider other options. It lumbers through a 1200dpi interpolated scan of an 8.5″ x 11″ black and white document, but the quality comes out quite good. The standard 8.5″x11″ scanner bed is able to scan up to 2400 dpi interpolated resolution which is plenty fine for any micro-office setting.
Prints
The Epson WF-2660 is all about connectivity and laser-like quality prints. The unit allows you multiple ways to connect including Wireless, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC, USB and direct plug with Ethernet cable. The compact and versatile unit is quick for home and home office prints and productivity. Sharp laser-like text printing works well for presentational projects and photo quality prints on glossy premium paper that offers great color reproduction and saturation.
As with most standard ink cartridges, unless you’re printing is infrequent, you may get a bit more bang for your buck with the XL tanks at 450/500 for black/color respectively. Each standard yield ink cartridge only gives you about 175/165 black to color prints at $13/black and $9/color while the XL tanks cost $30/black and $17/color.
Conclusion
The Epson WF-2660 WorkForce class all-in-one printer, scanner, copier, fax gives you quick print speeds with duplex printing and a 30-page Automatic Document Feeder to help minimize fumbling around. Crisp laser-like text prints with more than adequate ability to print great glossy photos, the Epson WF-2660 is an excellent versatile all around performer that’s compact and cost effective enough for the home or home office setting.
