Technology seems to get more refined and complex with advances, but thanks to some resources, it’s always possible to implement the DIY aspect into technology. There are everyday common things that can be created, recreated and repaired. Here are some DIY projects to consider in the name of science and exploration for the technologically inclined:
1. Air Pumps
Air pumps require kits such as motocycle tire pump kits. The second thing you require is a tank, which will be used to store the air. A gauge will be used to find out how much pressure is in the tank, and a pipe would be needed to take the role of a shaft.
Attach the tank with the gauge. Next, use the pump kit and place the pipe in the tank and secure it. On the free end of the pipe, place a duct tape. Next, use the pump kit to inflate the tank with air, and close the open end of the pipe with your thumb to prevent the air from escaping and tighten the duct tape more.
2. USB wall charging unit
Removing and plugging the USB into a computer for charging a smartphone can be a nuisance at times. To avoid the hassle, you can go ahead and make a USB wall charging unit so the connection is available at all times without any manual intervention.
Take the USB cable and cut it at the end which is used to connect to the smartphone. Two wires will be visible to you; a red one and a black one. The red one is the power wire. Next, take some scissors and cut the female end. Two similar wires will be visible. On the way down, on each cable, strip the wires to an inch and twist both the red wires to each other, and the black wires to each other. Use an electrical tape and wrap around the open wires. Now plug the charger in a socket and use the cable to start charging the device.
3. Powerful home theater PC
A powerful home theater PC can be made at home. The required materials include a hard drive, Zotac motherboard, 2 GB RAM (any company), Windows OS, a computer case and a powerful graphic processor such as the new ION from NVIDIA.
Take the RAM and add it to the motherboard. Place the Zotac motherboard into the case. Next, place an SSD hard drive and a Blu-Ray drive. Install the Windows OS in the end and let the graphic card do its job.
