Turning the lights low makes people less generous and more dishonest. In one experiment students in both dimly and well lit rooms were given a test. They were told that they would be scoring their own answers and would receive 50 cents for each correct answer. Although both groups got the same number of questions right, those in the dimly lit room reported roughly 35 percent more correct responses than those who took the test in a room with regular lighting.
