The Dell Slide has been showcased by Dell primarily because, US carrier control and Android’s immaturity was the main reason for the forthcoming release of the Dell Streak 10 Pro. The 10 inch wide tablet will make its opening debut in China first instead of the US or Europe. Dell Streak 10 Pro will have a 1280×800 display; it will run NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 Processor and a 5 MP rear camera. There is also an SD card slot, a front facing camera, and HDMI and USB port, as well as full 1080p support. The entire device weighs around 700 grams, and will also be offered with the optional dock with USB host, HDMI, Ethernet as well as other business friendly functionality.
“This is not an either-or for us. This is a choice about where is the best place to take our story and avoids a bunch of the inhibitors and barriers to success that we’ve seen in the U.S. market … Things like confusion over what exactly Android is bringing to the table [and] an immature platform and roll out of devices that weren’t quite ready yet. Even simple things like distribution channels that are controlled by the carriers with pricing models that are completely upside down to adoption.”
– John Thode, Vice President/ Manager of
Mobility, DELL
Thode at the same seminar, didn’t mention the exact release date of the Dell Streak but he said that it would be sometime around the middle of 2012. It looks like that Dell is tying to swim upstream by first selling in China as the growth rates have shown to be much more interesting there.
