Cobra CDR 900 HD Dash Cam Review. Driving for fun, leisure or work? If you spend lots of time on the road behind the wheel, you know just about anything can happen and usually does at some point. The Cobra CDR 900 Dash Cam lets you record footage in HD or Super HD quality video.
CDR 900 Specs
The Flagship Dash Cam’s camera is powered by a Ambarella™ A7LA chipset and is a professional grade quality dash cam. Record video in 1080p HD or 1269p super HD for the ultimate clarity and vivid video, 12 megapixel camera allows for excellent quality stills and measures only 2.2 ” x 2.2 ” x 1.15 “.
A two inch color LCD screen gives you a nice little reference point to see through your camera’s eyes or you can use the iOS or Android app to connect to the CDR 900’s WiFi signal like a GoPro HERO 3+ camera. The CDR 900 comes with a heavy duty suction cup mount for your windshield, cigarette adapter, tripod adapter mount, lanyard, lanyard mount and Micro USB Cables (1 foot power/data & 12 foot power only).
The camera utilizes two sensors, one for motion and another G-Sensor for collisions or sudden acceleration to automatically start recording. Cloud mode lets you use the camera remotely from anywhere you have a highspeed internet connection. It’s small enough so you can take it virtually everywhere, easy to carry and easy to mount.
CDR 900 Features & Usage
The Cobra CDR 900 HD Dash Cam features a 160 degree ultra-wide angle lens so you can view every detail of your forward movement and even capture some peripheral view. It comes with a 8GB microSD card which is a welcome sight considering most electronic devices do not include a memory card with it. 8GB isn’t a huge amount of space when recording especially in HD or super HD, but the Continuous Loop Recording feature allows you to overwrite video automatically so you will always have your most recent recording in memory. An instant on feature keeps the camera aware and ready to click on with sudden movement or impact.
Viewing your CDR 900 camera over your phone via the app in your car is not recommended, it didn’t seem to operate very well and I wouldn’t want to fumble with the phone while driving even if you use a smartphone mount of some sort. I recommend if you can help it, simply keep the rear of the camera in your view, problem solved. In future firmware and app updates this can be smoothed out a bit more. Your mileage may vary. Using the CDR 900 camera remotely using your smartphone with the Cloud feature worked a bit better and can come in handy should you need a quality video camera that you can pop up basically anywhere. It’s small, lightweight and captures great video for a little unit.
CDR 900 Overall
Overall, the Cobra CDR 900 HD Dash Cam offering Super HD 1296p video resolution and 12 megapixel still camera capture beautiful video and still images and you can use it in cloud mode to view it remotely from anywhere you have a broadband connection using your smartphone. It offers GPS expandability via port, and motion and G-sensors allow the camera to stay alert with instant on, even when you might not be. The Cobra CDR 900 HD Dash Cam is one of the best dash cams on the market and great if you spend lots of time on the road and/or want to capture any shenanigans while driving in HD or Super HD video.
