BMW is about to release their All New I Series

BMW is about to release their All New I Series which include two electric models, namely i3 and i8. The car has quite a few of the regular features including suspension, power-train, and chassis.

The BMW i8 Spyder hybrid concept car is supposed to come just a little under 3,300 pounds while the i3 is said to tip the scales at almost 2,755 pounds. The engine sounds slightly chunky. Consider that the average gasoline powered car converted to EV duty normally tacks on around 500 pounds courtesy of the battery, cooling and motor system. If you look at it this way, both models can be considered quite suave.

The “life” structure of the i3 that envelopes its passengers is very strong yet extremely light.  It was in fact so strong that BMW didn’t include a B-Pillar for structural rigidity. Both the i3 and i8 have very thin carbon fiber and plastic bits incorporated into their interior elements.

According to senior vice president of BMW design, Adrian Van Hooydonk, The very low rear windows may not make it into the final production of both cars, but the production team is trying to bring as much outside lighting into their cars, at least in the i8. On the other hand, the i3’s glass roof might make its way for a full carbon fiber piece when production kicks of next year.

As far as BMW’s reputation is concerned, this will be their first mid-engine BMW in nearly 30 years. It is likely to be fitted with a dual-clutch gearbox as well as a kind of torque vectoring system. The car will also have a torque of 402 lb ft to the all wheel drive, while the turbo 1.5 liter, three cylinder engine will be under the hood.
