Billy Reid’s women’s pieces were mixed in with his mostly men’s wear collection. And it all was in perfect step, underscoring what makes this designer seem so effortlessly talented. For his men this season, preppy bohemian was the main inspiration. The strong looks featured an inventive contrast of textures and patterns, thanks to an infusion of home-furnishing fabrics mixed with washed suede and traditional linens. A distressed suede slouchy jacket, for example, was paired with handmade quilted skinny shorts that looked chic and vintage without losing modernity. For the women, Reid’s devil-may-care attitude elevated what could be sloppy to terrifically cool. Consider the ankle-grazing, wrinkled linen coat and shorter, hand-tucked shirtdresses, and the quilted patchwork jackets with suede shorts or prairie skirts.
