Jawbone has been around since 1999 making some of the best Bluetooth earpieces and headsets available on the market today and is back with a bigger, better Big Jambox. The Big Jambox Hi-Fi portable speaker by Jawbone is the portable boombox of today, thank goodness it doesn’t take D batteries. It weighs about 1.23 kg or 2.7 lbs and measures Length 10″ (256mm), Weight 3.1″ (80mm), Height 3.6″ (93mm).
The Big Jambox is a Hi-Fi wireless music system that packs a pair of complex acoustic drivers that handle the highs and lows in a single dome speaker. The pair of proprietary speakers work in tandem with dual “innovative moving-wall passive bass radiators” in an airtight enclosure to create those deep thumping bass sounds. The result is rich, loud, full sounding Hi-Fidelity audio. LiveAudio, featured in the Big Jambox is BACCH 3D sound technology implemented to bring you an immersive 3 dimensional audio experience.
Jawbone can be paired with multiple devices and allows access from two devices at the same time with simultaneous multi-port. MyTALK connection support for downloading firmware, updates and add-ons. It also has equipped an internal microphone and can be used for speaker-phone conference calls with ease over Bluetooth from your mobile smartphone. It’s completely portable and can be used in your car, outdoors, home computer for apps that support audio/video conferencing like iChat, Skype or Google Talk.
The wireless range is about 33 feet and supports Bluetooth v2.1, EDR Enhanced Data Rate, Advanced Audio Distribution Profile or A2DP 1.2, Hands-Free Profile or HFP 1.5 and Headset Profile or HSP 1.1. The Big Jambox by Jawbone can be charged by the supplied micro USB charging cable and/or wall plug. A Lithium-Ion battery allows you up to 15 hours of continuous play on a full charge and displays the battery life on the driving devices that support it. Standby time is about 500 hours. Unfortunately the Big Jambox does not have an Wi-Fi antenna inside to utilize AirPlay, a piece of equipment we would love to have seen implemented.
There are no wires to hassle with, simply pick it up and pair it with your favorite devices and your all set. The sturdy, well-crafted Big Jambox is available in 3 color schemes, Graphite Hex, White Wave and Red Dot and will run you $299. Comes with A/C wall charger, carry case, user guide, 60″/12.5″ micro-usb cables along with a 36″ 3.5mm stereo cable.
