Kensington KP400 Switchable Keyboard

Kensington KP400 Switchable Keyboard

Looking for a versatile keyboard that can bounce back and forth between wired and wireless connection? The Kensington KP400 Switchable Keyboard is full-sized complete with numeric keypad that allows you to work with your Windows desktop, tablet or smartphone via wired USB 2.0 cable or Bluetooth connectivity.

The KP400 is a slick matte black keyboard with flat keys and relatively flat and thin at just under 18mm. The combination wired and bluetooth keyboard carries a little weight with it so it does feel quite solid. The action on the keys is not as crisp as I would prefer but comfortable and pleasant to use. Great for those of you who like or want a silent typing experience with no clicking sounds. On the bottom the battery compartment angles the keyboard towards you slightly with additional kickstands that allow you to increase the angle even further if you prefer. On the upper right, just above the numeric keypad are 3 LED indicators that display on/off for Bluetooth connection, caps-lock and battery power.

The KP400 measures 17.5” x 4.9” x 0.7” (444 mm x 124 mm x 18 mm) and weighs 1.1 lbs (488 g) and connects via a Micro USB or Bluetooth connection. When wireless can operate on 2 AAA batteries and features auto off as well as a physical off button to conserve battery life. Switching between devices is super simple with a quick press of the Ctrl and USB-Bluetooth button (aka numeric key 1). Keep it wired into your tower and switch to wireless for your tablet or smartphone, super convenient! In the box you will find the KP400 Switchable Keyboard, Micro USB to USB 2.0  6ft cable and 2 AAA alkaline batteries.

Kensington KP400 Switchable KeyboardIf you’re a Windows kinda family the Kensington KP400 Switchable keyboard works great swapping between Windows based smartphones, tablets and PC’s Windows 7, 8 & 8.1. Supports Bluetooth 3.0 wireless connectivity. Unfortunately the versatility doesn’t natively extend to iOS, Android or Chrome operating systems but still does allow you basic typing and directional arrows which may be all you need anyway. Your mileage may vary.

For OSX users, the keyboard behaves much like any other PC peripheral keyboard you’ve used on a Mac in the past. You’ll need to use the Windows and Alt keys to operate the equivalent Apple Option and Command keys but will otherwise allow you to do what you need to do. So if you are a OSX user or have OSX or iOS devices, they won’t feel left out.

The KP400 is thin but fairly large with it’s full-sized layout for travel and might be best suited for home use. That said, the Kensington KP400 Switchable Keyboard is a convenient tool to have around to compliment your various devices. Best of all it’s versatile and allows you to get away from pecking away at your virtual keyboard! Comes with a 3 year Warranty.
