Samsung Exynos 5 Octa Processor, 8 cores for your smartphone pleasure

Samsung has been all over the place lately, but in a good way. The Galaxy Note II, Samsung Galaxy SIII, NX300 with F1.8 2d/3d lens, HD TV’s, LED LCD touch screen monitors, the list goes on and on and they aren’t stopping now. Samsung has announced the introduction of the 8-core Exynos 5 Octa Processor, yep you heard right! Two sets of four cores for a total of 8 cores will be driving the next smartphones and phablets from Samsung to come.

Announced today at CES, the dual 4 core or 8 cores will be harnessed by the ARM big LITTLE architecture which has on the fly automatic switching between performance and efficiency similar in concept to your laptop’s energy saver setting. It is claimed to increase battery life by 70%, that would be very nice, performance and efficiency to boot. The two halves are supposed to work in tandem and be throttled to 1.8 and 1.2 ghz to handle performance and energy efficiency respectively for each side of the CPU.

What does all that mean for you? Your phone will be faster, better a multitasking and the battery will last longer. Samsung is helping to define and drive the mobile industry, focusing on sheer processing power, more memory and display technology, three areas that Samsung certainly excels in. I can’t wait to see the Exynos 5 Octa in a Galaxy S4! Rumors are buzzing that Samsung may move away from Android??  Stay tuned for more from Samsung.
