On February 8th, Donna Karen showed her DKNY MEN FALL 2011 in the Lower East Side at a place called Beauty & Essex. Since it’s not every day we see fashion shows during New York Fashion Week down in the LES I think Donna Karen may be on to something here and starting a new trend.
As I made my way in and walked towards the end I saw Donna Karen chilling on one of the many couches. I greeted her and then walked back to find my seat. Drinks and h’ordeuvres were served a half hour before the show started and the crowd mingling was made out of a very selective beautiful people in the industry. You can see everyone was hand picked to be there because when it was time to take your seat all the couches were filled with just the right amount of people to sit there comfortably.
Lights dimmed and show starts and the look you saw was very military inspired. Everything appeared to be cleaned up, trimmed down and very sleek. Shades of grays, browns, black, blue, and olive with a pop of wine hit the runway yesterday. The clothes were all slim-fitted; fine merino turtle and roll-neck knits were sleek and modern; jackets demonstrated an exercise of fashion meets function; the 3-in-1 nylon bomber parka and shearling bomber are a must have and the shiny woven shirts completed a few of the looks. Expect to see these military and modern inspirations hit the stores Fall 2011 for DKNY. The fabric of choice will also be lots and lots of wool!
Donna Karen showed us what young trendy men will be wearing next fall season and I think it all looks so professional too yet trendy enough to go straight from work to an evening out. Her signature black and dark look is also back and it sure suits the youthful man of 2011.
