A Must Have Accessory: Scarves

So winter is dooming and it’s a depressing thought. Days of hitting the beach and wearing next to nothing is gradually changing to days of hibernating and wearing as many clothes as possible. Knitwear has become hugely popular this season, with cable knit jumpers hitting every high street store. Feeling that sense of warmth is key, and nothings better than a knitted texture. Layering is always a technique brought up when winter hits, meaning we can wear more of our favourite garments at one time, but things can be made a lot simpler through accessorizing.

Mens scarves have always been traditionally a great addition to any look, adding the obvious function of warmth. But for us style focused guys, scarves can add a lot more than just a warmer neck. They can be utilised to add different textures to a look along with adding a touch of colour. With different fabrics and designs available to us in todays market, what’s the best mens scarves to be going for?

Fabric – a cashmere if you can afford it would be an ideal pick, if not opt for a material called cashmink. This gives that cashmere effect, its just slightly lighter. Wool mixes add extra warmth, try getting a 50/50 wool and cotton mix as this won’t leave your neck feeling itchy, but it will defiantly add warmth.

Design – Don’t opt for something neutral, as this will just blend in with your look. You want a scarf to compliment and add another dimension to your looks, so go for something with a colourful design. Reversible scarves are great to have and normally have a neutral and colourful reverse, meaning you’d use the colourful side if you wanted to add to the look, or the neutral side to blend in with the look. Remember paying attention to detailing is key, so paying attention to the finest thing such as the design of your scarf shouldn’t be overlooked.

Ways to tie your scarf – You can implement a different aspect to your look by the way you tie your scarf. You can leave it loosely draped over your shoulders offering that relaxed casual feel, or you can tie it close to your neck leaving more of a snug feel. Here’s a video on ways to tie your scarf.
