Subaru And Toyota’s Joint Partnership, The Scion FR-S

Here’s another of Subaru and Toyota’s joint partnership on a rear wheel drive sports car. Toyota had displayed the FT-86 II concept earlier this year in Geneva along with the chassis for Subaru’s version of the car. Finally, here in New York, the FR-S was finally revealed.

The name of the car says it all. “FR-S” stands for “front engine rear wheel drive sport” or according to Scion’s vice president, Jack Hollis, “the friggin’ really sweet” car. Apparently the car is a homage to the bad ass AE-86 Corolla that was infamous for its superb balance, lightweight body, and all this without having to use too much of power. Under the hood we saw a 2.0 liter engine that was tuned to a six speed automatic or manual transmission. There are a huge set of 18 inch carbon ceramic brake rotors that are well hidden by 20 inch wheels both fixed to each other like in a motorcycle.

Scion vice president, Jack Hollis stated that the design of the car was inspired vigorously by the now legendary Toyota 200GT. We saw a few sleek blend curves in the angular shapes that notoriously resembled the Lexus LF-A. We thought this was a cool concept and we also heard that there will be a new member to the Scion family in 2012.

Just give us the production car so that we can stop with the drooling already!
