5 Nursing Positions that Will Have You Living in the Lap of Luxury

Nurses don’t have to choose between working in a nursing home or working as a nurse in the hospital ward. Nor do you have to travel between grueling assignments to earn a decent paycheck while seeing the world. There are a surprising number of nursing jobs that allow you to live the life you’ve always dreamed of, no matter what shape that dream takes. Here are 5 nursing positions that will have you living in the lap of luxury.

Cruise Ship Nurse

One of the most glamorous and sought-after positions in the nursing field is cruise ship nurse. They handle everything from seasickness to heart attacks and are the first responders on the crew ship whenever something happens. They are responsible for providing care not only for the passengers, but for the staff as well. Cruise ship nurses also need to be able to work with people from all sorts of backgrounds and demographics, whether it’s senior couples, or young spring breakers looking to party.

At the end of the shift and on their days off, cruise ship nurses can enjoy the amenities the ship has to offer and the ports where the ship stops. This really means that you’ll have the chance to cruise to some of your favorite destinations for free. This is hands down one of the most glamorous positions you can find as a nurse, and one with loads of benefits.

Yacht Nurse

The next step up is a yacht nurse. As a yacht nurse, you have roughly the same expectations as a cruise ship nurse. The main difference here is that you have far fewer patients, which will give you much more free time.

Another great thing about working as a yacht nurse is that you have the opportunity to get to know people. You may be able to build a close relationship with the people you’re sailing with and the yacht owner and their family. As a matter of fact, some yacht nurses work full time with the same family and become part of it in many ways.

When you work on a private yacht full time, you have to be ready to go whenever your employer hits the high seas. You could provide basic care for the crew who man the ship full time. You’ll get to see many incredible places, and your employer is more likely to stay for an extended period of time. Now you get to spend a week or two on a Caribbean island instead of a single day.

Yacht nurses are generally the only medical professionals on board. This means you’ll need to complete the STCW10 basic safety course and ENG1 medical certificate. Also, know that you may be asked to provide additional services when labor is short, like washing dishes and doing laundry in addition to teaching CPR to the boarding crew.

Another thing you should know is that you have to be at least a registered nurse to qualify for this job, though some will prefer working with someone who has at least their bachelor’s. However, you shouldn’t allow this to discourage you. One of the things you could do to get your credentials faster would be to find an accelerated BSN program. When you go through online accelerated BSN programs for non nurses from an accredited school, you’ll be able to use previous coursework to move faster and have the bachelor’s degree and the credentials required to become an RN. This will make you a prime candidate for both cruise ship and yacht nurse positions.

Script Nurse

TV shows and movies sometimes need to bring in consultants to be accurate. Their essential inaccuracies could end up affecting the production’s credibility and ratings. Not to mention that no one wants to be responsible for spreading misinformation

This is where medical script nurses come in. They are fully trained medical professionals who review scripts for production companies. They may work as full-time consultants to medical dramas, or be on call for questions during filming and story writing.

As a script nurse, you will have to support writers and actors working on a tight deadline, so you have to be able to deal with the pressure. However, this job could really allow you to live and work in Hollywood or any major entertainment hub. This is especially true if you become renowned for your work and start getting assignments on films and TV series.

Nurses are often called during the character development stages to make sure that the portrayal is realistic and that there aren’t any incongruencies. They might also be able to help with decor, how to portray procedures correctly, medical terminology, or explaining the relationships between nurses and other medical staff. This is a great position for experienced nurses who are ready for something new. It’s also open to doctors and other staff with specialized knowledge.

Disney Nurse

Disney nurses play a very important role and get to work in a beautiful setting. Perhaps someone passed out from heatstroke in line for a ride, or someone was hurt on a ride or exited the roller coaster complaining of chest pains. Or, a child became violently ill after eating something from the food court. No matter what is wrong, Disney nurses are here to save the day.

Also, know that you could use your experience as a Disney nurse to work for other major theme parks around the world. Furthermore, you could be paid to travel to tourist-friendly destinations and work a standard schedule taking care of a steady stream of visitors.

Resort Nurse

These jobs can be found anywhere from wilderness camps to luxurious resorts offering lessons to the public. As a resort nurse, you generally receive free room and board. Not only that, but you could get to go white water rafting, skiing, or horseback riding at the end of the day.

There are many more career options than working in a clinic or in a hospital. Furthermore, there are many nursing jobs that allow you to travel or stay in luxurious destinations. These are just a few of them, so make sure that you explore your options and see which ones tickle your interest the most.
