When you think about a celebrity, you might understandably envision him or her in his or her huge mansions with their personal chefs fixing them amazing meals, huge closets filled with designer duds, and multi-car garages that house incredibly expensive, luxury vehicles.
Celebrity Cars
While you can probably find a number of celebs that fit these common stereotypes, there are plenty more that break the mold and have made more frugal lifestyle choices—at least as far as their vehicles are concerned.
If you have ever thought that you will never be able to afford the same cars as your fave celebs, please think again. Plenty of famous people drive very normal and accessible cars:
Cameron Diaz: Toyota Prius
With a multitude of acting credits under her belt, Cameron Diaz could probably buy just about any car she wanted. But according to some sources, she is often spotted driving around town in her Toyota Prius. Since the early 2000s, Diaz has been happy to drive an environmentally friendly car that still lets her easily get to wherever she needs to go.
John Goodman: Ford F-150
As an actor with a career that spans decades, John Goodman is apparently an extremely down to earth kind of guy. The star of “Roseanne” (and plenty of movies) prefers his trusty Ford F-150 that was built in the late ‘90s. Rather than upgrading to an uber fast sports car or newer model of his pickup, Goodman seems content to drive a vehicle that is reliable and paid for.
Kawhi Leonard: Chevy Tahoe
If you are a fan of the NBA, you may have cheered on Kawhi Leonard as he helped lead the Toronto Raptors to a championship. If you are also a fan of a budget-friendly lifestyle, you will be pleased to know that Leonard still drives the same old SUV that he drove in high school. He nicknamed his 1997 Chevy Tahoe the “Gas Guzzler” and, when asked why he hasn’t upgraded to something that might be more fitting of someone with a huge basketball salary, Leonard likes to reply “It runs…and it’s paid off.”
Christian Bale: Toyota Tacoma
After playing Batman and getting to experience the joys of driving the Batmobile, you might think that actor Christian Bale would be seen behind the wheel of a Lamborghini, Mercedes or Ferrari. But according to Ranker, Bale is fond of his Toyota Tacoma; like Goodman, he seems to prefer a basic, rugged and functional vehicle like a pickup truck over something flashy that costs a ton of money. And, if you wish to emulate your fave actor, singer, or ballplayer, you can definitely follow suit and drive a used Toyota Tacoma, older model pickup truck, SUV, or VW instead of some incredibly expensive roadster.
Justin Timberlake: Volkswagen Jetta
It is safe to say that the singer, actor and multi-millionaire could drive a different fancy sports car every day of the week. In fact, Justin Timberlake apparently has a nice stable of cars at his home at his disposal. But according to some sources, when the chips are down and he wants to head out with his family, he would rather do so in a very normal $16,000 Volkswagen Jetta. Timberlake apparently appreciates doing most of his everyday driving in an affordable, reliable and oh-so normal car that is not only easy to maintain, it probably doesn’t attract a ton of attention wherever he goes.
Care for Your Celebrity Car
Even though you can definitely drive some of the same types of vehicles as your fave celebs, the fact remains that your budgets are probably pretty different. For instance, when Leonard, who is now an LA Clipper, decides to trade in his beloved Gas Guzzler for some new wheels, he might not opt for a pre-owned car this time. To help keep your car on the road for as long as possible, and keep you and your occupants safe, you might want to consider looking into used car insurance, an extended warranty or a used car service contract. For instance, Protect My Car offers different plans that will cover cars that are no longer covered by the original warranty.
You Can Have Something in Common with the Celebs
As a fan of many celebrities, it is reassuring to know that many of them drive very basic, ordinary cars. And, if you wish to emulate your fave actor, singer or ball player, you can definitely follow suit and drive a Toyota Prius, older model pickup truck, SUV or VW instead of some incredibly expensive roadster. You can then truthfully tell your friends and family that you share some things in common with a celebrity—a normal and reliable car and a budget-friendly mindset.
